Calycanthus floridus
This plant must have had the most "oohs and aahs" when people visit our gardens.
Also known as an Eastern Sweetshrub or Carolina Allspice
This stunning shrub will produce its lightly scented flowers from late spring and often up until Christmas. The flowers themselves are a delight and form along the branches. They are Magnolia-like in appearance and a rich shade of burgundy red, with just a touch of cream towards their centre which are very attractive against the backdrop of their luscious green foliage which turns to buttery shades in autumn. This plant likes some shelter from cold drying winds but other than that it is hardy. Happy in a partial shade position although some morning sun is fine. Prune after flowering.
Winter dormant.
Up to 2 metres x approximately 1.5 m wide although can be pruned to shape
3.5 Litre Pot | Deciduous
