Chasmanthium latifolium | Northern Sea Oats
Chasmanthium latifolium also known Northern Sea Oats, is a clump forming upright ornamental grass which is fabulous for cutting and using in fresh or dried floral arrangements and its seed heads are striking dried with their bronze plummy tones.
This plant is easily grown in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil and is also tolerant of poor soil. Plants are happy in full sun to partial shade. Chasmanthium latifolium is one of the more shade tolerant of the ornamental grasses. Leaving foliage in place over winter will provide winter interest as well as protecting the crown particularly in colder climates. Cut back to the ground in early spring.
Plants will provide excellent contrast and texture almost year-round to the border or shaded garden and look lovely in naturalised landscapes along streams or on the periphery of the water garden. Naturalise or use as specimens or accents.
Please note this plant will set seed so cut off seed heads if you do not want it to self sow.
