This Winter Hazel a native of Japan, and from the Witch Hazel family, is a dense, spreading, multi-stemmed and deciduous shrub, which grows to 2 metres tall and a 2.5 metres wide.
It bears very fragrant racemes of bright yellow/lemon bell shaped flowers with purple anthers that hang from the branches before the leaves appear in late winter / very early Spring. The leaves have a ribbed texture and emerge peachy coloured. Very pretty.
It enjoys full sun and moist humous rich soil but protect from high winds as it burns the leaves.
Prune to shape immediately after flowering if it needs it.
