Dahlia imperialis | White Anemone | Tree Dahlia
A sight to behold in Autumn, the flower sprays have around twelve striking white flowers which actually point downwards which is just as well given the height of the plant, so you are able to gaze up at the beautiful snow white single anemone type flowers, perfect for the bees and pollinators!
Whilst this plant is called a tree Dahlia, this is not really correct as it is simply a tuberous perennial the same as other Dahlias. It will be knocked back by frost, but we still often in mild winters which seem to be a common occurrence these days can still be flowering in late June. A striking plant even when it is not in flower, it grows to a formidable size with thick bamboo cane like stems and lush foliage.
After flowering the plant should be cut back to the ground and it will grow again in spring to start the whole process all over again.
If you don't want a massive plant or you want to encourage a bushier plant, simply prune the tops occasionally during the growing season. You can feed every couple of months during the growing season with an all-purpose fertilizer.
Plants are said to be hardy to around -7 to -4°C if planted deep and well-mulched. We recommend protecting from strong winds as the new shoots and flower sprays are delicate. It enjoys a well-drained position along with regular watering in warmer months although mulching certainly helps with this. Plants in full sun or half day sun is fine.
Please note this is plant not a tuber.
Height upwards of 3m
Pot size: 2.5 Litre
