Dalea purpurea | Purple Prairie Clover

Dalea purpurea | Purple Prairie Clover

Dalea purpurea, or Purple Prairie Clover, is a resilient and vibrant plant that brings a burst of colour in the garden with its multi-stems held above foliage that is a finely textured mound. Its quirky rosy violet, 7cm long flowers attract important pollinators like bees and butterflies.

We love how they flower from the bottom and get longer as the blooms open up the cone all through summer.

It's a tough little plant, very hardy and can tolerate very low temperatures and poor soils.

They grow to 90cm tall and 45cm wide.

Lovely as a cut flower, really unusual and a talking point.

Hates shade, but has lovely tap roots which means it doesn't mind dry conditions and windy pots.

Pot size; 1 litre
