Geranium x oxonianum f. thurstonianum | Cranesbill
Cranesbill, or hardy geraniums are perennial border plants that are easy to grow, thrive in shade and flower for months. They are also very popular in cottage garden schemes.
Geranium oxonianum f. thurstonianum bears pale pink flowers with darker lacy veining and very narrow petals. It’s perfect for growing at the front of a mixed border, or also looks lovely at the base of shrubs such as roses. When not in flower the foliage remains attractive.
The perfect choice for an area that has full sun, dappled shade and even part shade. Plants perform to their best in well drained soils but will basically grow anywhere including light sandy soils right through to clay and chalky alkaline soils so very adaptable. Flowers from early summer although we have had ours start as early as spring with a mild winter.
Not only are geraniums fuss free, but they are also generally pest and disease resistant. They are, once established, drought tolerant and even slugs, snails and rabbits turn their noses up at them.
The flowers are loved by bees and all beneficial insects such as butterflies, moths and other pollinators due to its nectar and pollen rich flowers. Please note the foliage in the photo is not the plants foliage the second photo shows the foliage - the flower was just flowering through another plant!
Not often seen.
