Helenium | Butterpat
Helenium ‘Butterpat’ is one of the best Heleniums, it has large approximately 7cm-wide flowers with a prominent, raised yellow-brown eye and outward-pointing buttery yellow petals. It’s extremely free-flowering and grown in drifts perhaps merging them with other Heleniums - Moerheim Beauty or Lord of Flanders which we also grow looks particularly striking. It may need staking on exposed sites or grown amongst other mid-height perennials to give it some support. The Royal Horticultural Society has given Helenium ‘Butterpat’ its prestigious Award of Garden Merit. Loved by bees and butterflies.
Heleniums add impact to the late summer and early autumn garden and are easy to grow and not overly fussy and thrive in most soils with good drainage, but they will appreciate some water in the heat of summer or mulch as we do to retain moisture. Heleniums thrive in a sunny position.
An excellent choice for cottage, naturalistic and meadow gardens as well as the mixed border. Deadheading will extend the flowering season. Once flowering has finished and the plant has died back the stems should be cut to the ground. An excellent cut flower that lasts well in a vase. Plants can be easily split each season to give you more plants and we do this in spring.
Height 1metre x 45cm Wide
