Aster novi-belgii | Pretty in Pink
Pretty in Pink is tall but compact aster standing at around 1 metre in height and it is always a mass of flowers from later summer to mid-autumn. Thriving in full sun in average well-drained soil it is a key ingredient of the late summer/autumn garden. Asters are valued as they also make an excellent cut flower and are a must for planting if you are trying to attract both birds and butterflies to your garden.
Asters are easily split by division in spring and should be divided every few years to maintain vigour. Pinching your asters back by taking out the growing tips in spring will also help to keep your plants nice and compact. When they have finished flowering you can cut back the flowering stems in late autumn.
