Calamagrostis acutiflora | Overdam
This lovely Feather Reed Grass is a sport of Calamagrostis x acutiflora Karl Foerster and has striking arched creamy white striped leaves with green variegation. Overdam will tolerate both heat and humidity but will appreciate a partially shaded area in warmer locations, but it also enjoys cooler temperatures as well.
Overdam has a clumping habit that has striking airy seed heads that tower above its striking foliage. Overdam should be cut back at the end of winter to allow for new growth and late spring flowering. A showy plant with an upright silhouette that adds texture, vertical structure and movement to the garden. The pinkish purple feathery flower plumes and foliage are excellent used in floral work either fresh or dried. Plants are drought tolerant once established but do like a moist soil and are even happy in a clay soil.
A fantastic addition to a white themed garden, great in borders, on mass or mixed plantings with perennials. A low maintenance plant. Plants can be divided in mid spring.
