Here at Puriri Lane @Addenbrooke we have lots of Nepeta around many of our flower beds. They are such great pollinator attractors, and the soft blue of the long lasting and softly arching blooms is just so cooling in the summer months.
The leaves are just as pretty and are wonderfully scented, filling the air as the sun warms it on those long hot days. Heavenly!
Six Hills Giant doesn't sound quite as romantic, but it does fill a lovely space, giving lots of colour and is such great value for wildlife. Bees and butterflies flock to them and enjoy its rich nectar too.
Plant in full sun or dappled shade in well-draining soil. Cut all the blooms back after the first flowering of Summer and you'll be rewarded with an extra blush about 4-6 weeks later. This one grows to about 90cm tall x 1m wide.
Be sparing with fertilisers as they will grow quickly and flop if they get too much.
Great for drying for pot pourri too!
