Eryngium planum | Blue Hobbit

Eryngium planum | Blue Hobbit

This fabulous compact perennial boasts a profusion of egg shaped purplish-blue spiny flower heads over the summer months.  The interesting flowers stand high above the deeply toothed leaves.  This stunning little plant adds beautiful texture as well as adding a unique colour to the garden.  These plants flower in summer and are so easy to care for.

A favourite of florists for cutting and drying as well as bees and butterflies this little plant flowers throughout the summer months and is the perfect choice for a sun-baked garden.  Blue Hobbit thrives in full sun in dry well drained soils - the more sun it receives the blue the flower heads. A great choice not only for the garden but also fine in a pot.

Avoid planting it in moist and very fertile soils as the plants tend to sprawl.  If you have an area with poor soil, then this is a good choice. Deadhead to keep the plant neat and tidy and cut it back in late summer after flowering has finished.  Drought tolerant once established

May self-sow if conditions are ideal but rarely becomes a nuisance.  Plants once in the garden are best left undisturbed as they resent being moved once established.
