Eryngiums are hardy, full sun loving perennials that make a striking addition to dry, sunny borders and gravel gardens. They have thistle-like flowers, made up of tiny flowers packed together in a tight cluster, surrounded by a ruff of spiny bracts, which are modified leaves. The flowerheads last well when cut and can also be dried.

'Blaukappe' (literally blue cap) is a tall-growing cultivar to 90 cm tall and 40 cm wide, with small, electric-blue flowerheads and silver-blue spiky foliage. It's perfect for growing in the middle of a herbaceous border, gravel garden or in a container. It makes a wonderful cut flower, both in fresh and dried arrangements. For best results grow in free-draining soil, in a sunny position. Protect from excessive winter wet.

Very attractive to bees, beneficial insects, birds, butterflies/moths and other pollinators. It has nectar/pollen rich flowers and has seeds for birds.
