Helenium | Lord of Flanders
Heleniums are a "must have" in the Autumn Garden as they have such a long flowering season and the colourings on these flowers are outstanding. Lord of Flanders has a stunning maroon coloured flower with a dark brown coned centre that is rimmed with gold and smothered with pollen which drives the bees and the butterflies crazy ...they adore Heleniums.
These plants will provide you with masses of colour from early summer through into autumn when many other perennials are fading. They look stunning planted en masse and you can see how effective they are from the photo taken in our garden. They mix beautifully with grasses as well as many other perennials.
An excellent choice for cottage, naturalistic and meadow gardens as well as the mixed border. It is also an excellent cut flower. Heleniums enjoy sun and are very hardy as well as coping with medium to wet soil as long as it is well drained. Deadheading will extend the flowering season. Once flowering has finished the plant has died back the stems should be cut to the ground. Heleniums multiply easily and they can be split in the spring, this should be done every few years.
