Liatris spicata | Floristan Violet | Blazing Star
Liatris, commonly known as Gayfeather or Blazing Star, is actually a member of the Aster family. Plants form a low clump of grassy lily-like leaves and in midsummer bear tall spikes made up of many tiny pinky-purple flowers. This particular variety was bred especially for cutting so if you are looking for something striking for your cutting patch then this is a great choice with the added bonus that they are equally as attractive as a dried flower.
These flowers start flowering from the top and work their way down to the bottom. Lasts up to two weeks in a vase. An excellent vertical contrast plant and particularly effective planted en masse in a naturalistic planting.
A great choice for bees and butterflies and the birds love the seed in autumn. A long-lasting flower both in the garden and as a cut flower. Full sun is preferred although they will cope with partial shade. Not fussy about soil type but does like good drainage. Summer flowering.
Height 60-90cm with flowers x 60cm spread
Perennial | Hardy | Winter dormant
Pot Size: 1 Litre
