Lysimachia clethroides | Gooseneck Loosestrife

Lysimachia clethroides | Gooseneck Loosestrife

Also known as Gooseneck Loosestrife, this is a fast-growing, clump forming perennial, bearing fresh green, pointed leaves, which turn orange-red briefly before falling in autumn. In medicine, L. clethroides are also known as dwarf peach or pearl grass, amongst others. In herbal medicine. They are used to treat upset tummies, bruises, sore throat, heat exhaustion, etc. (Consult your doctor before using though.) Grows to 50cm tall and spreads vigorously, so if you're pushed for space, plant up in a pot.

Blooms throughout summer, but flowerheads mature at different times over several weeks. There's no point cutting it back as it doesn't reflush and you'd miss the autumn foliage which is really pretty.

Named 'Gooseneck' for the bend in the the flower spike. A gorgeous plant spreading by underground rhizomes. Boistrously invasive in the right conditions - beware! But that also means it is a very productive cut flower! Much desired by wedding florists, and were pleased to be offering this, this year!
1 litre pot.
