Primula vialii

Primula vialii

Also known as Orchid Primrose, Primula vialii is very beautiful with its unusual spires of tiny purple flowers.  The buds start off red and then open from the bottom up with the tiny purple flowers - a striking flower which when planted en masse is spectacular.

Flowers are held on stout stems that stand proud above the light green leaves. Primula vialii thrives in shady damp environments and flowers in early to mid-summer.  A perfect choice to add a pop of colour to a shady area of your garden. This plant can be grown in full sun in cooler climates providing the soil is kept moist and mulching will obviously help with this wherever you are located. Wet soil is tolerated so also a great choice for beside streams and ponds as well as being perfect for the cottage garden, underplanting and pots.  An excellent cut flower.

An easy-care plant that should be cut back after flowering.  If you suffer rabbits as we do you will be relieved to know that they do not like them!

This lovely primrose has been the recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society and we can see why!

Height with flower stems 35-40cm x 25-30cm Wide | Winter dormant
