If you are looking for a flower to add a feminine romantic look to your arrangements then this is definitely it. Silene vulgaris is an upright semi evergreen perennial that has upright flower stems that are covered in small pale green balloon like pods that are blushed with pink veining.  As the little pods mature the open to reveal pure snow white petals and once the petals have dropped the pretty little pods remain. This wonderful little plant flowers flat our from early summer through autumn.  If you are a florist doing wedding work then this plant is a must to add to your cutting garden.  The stems can be harvested at any stage and cut stems will last around 7-10 days in a vase.

They are also a lovely addition to a garden border and super cute for a cottage garden look as well as wildflower gardens and open woodland garden areas.  Also great for the rock at the front of the border.

Plants like full sun although they will cope with a little shade from hot afternoon sun. Excellent drainage is essential and sandy gravelly soils or light loams will provide the best results. Drought tolerant once established.
