Stipa gigantea | Golden Oats
This evergreen grass will create a wow factor in your garden but definitely needs some room to be able to shine and is best positioned mid to the back of the border or perhaps in a gravel garden. Also known as golden oats this plant has won the esteemed Award of Garden Merit (AGM) from the Royal Horticultural Society and you will see it featured in every English gardening magazine and garden as this plant creates such a striking architectural feature especially when it is clothed in frost!
This is the most dramatically beautiful of all grasses and has become much sought after appearing in European gardens of note.
This plant is evergreen and forms a spiky clump of arching deep green foliage from which these beautiful tall spiky oat-like flower heads arise in mid-summer. As the seed heads mature they splay apart which creates a fountain like shape that almost obscures the whole plant. The seed-heads will dry out on the plant and persist until early winter. This fabulous plant gives height and movement in the garden. This we have been told is a sterile variety so it should not set seed like many other grasses, it also has a tidy growth habit.
Height approximately 1 .5m 1.8m High x 1.5m Wide
Evergreen | Hardy
Pot Size: 1 Litre
