Aloe vera

Aloe vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis, is a succulent plant with antibacterial and antioxidant properties that can be used to treat skin injuries and other health issues. It's native to the Arabian Peninsula, but can also be found in tropical, semi-tropical, and arid climates around the world. Aloe vera is known for its ability to heal wounds, control blood sugar, aid digestive issues, and hydrate skin after exposure to the sun amongst others. Aloe vera juice contains antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, however, some compounds in aloe vera juice, especially aloin, may cause digestive discomfort and other side effects. We are no experts in this area so please consult a GP before using for medicinal reasons.
Aloe vera can be eaten raw or cooked using methods like poaching, blanching, or steaming. Cooking aloe vera meat makes it release more water and gives it a milder taste.
Aloe vera plants thrive in snug conditions, they love to be pot bound. They should be placed in a bright, sunny place, and watered heavily about once every two weeks, waiting until the soil dries out fully. This is most important as excess water will cause the plant to rot.
