As the summer begins wind down all its colours and look towards autumn, this beautiful, long-lasting perennial comes into its own and seems to make those warmer months last that little bit longer. We love our anemones at Puriri Lane @Addenbrooke. And we love how they hold their pretty heads high above their foliage, their delicate looking blooms nodding in the breeze. They have gorgeous silky soft pink petals with a yellow centre, holding their fluffy stamens which attracts all the pollinators! Leave their perfectly round seed heads for a while for some extra texture. Both these and the flowers make great cut flowers!
This one grows about 1.2 metres tall when flowering, loves to be in a woodland setting, so does especially well in part shade. We add plenty of mulch to them in the winter after we've cut them back to the ground, and they come up with lovely soft green foliage in the spring, ready for their late summer bloom time. Just fabulous! Can easily be divided in the spring, plant 'en masse' for best show.
