Also known as Blue False Indigo is a perennial herb native to central and eastern North America.

Baptisia is a large, bush-like plant that can grow up to 1 metre tall and has dense clusters of blue-purple, pea-like flowers that grow in spikes that can be up to 30 cm long. It blooms in summer and prefers full or partial shade and moist soil. The plant develops mostly below ground in its first few years, but the blooms become increasingly showy as the plant matures.

Baptisia australis has medicinal uses, including stimulating immune responses to infection, treating ear, nose, and throat problems, laryngitis, tonsillitis, and as a wash for mouth ulcers.
