Dierama pulcherrimum | Tui

Dierama pulcherrimum 'Tui'. For me, the common name alone sells this elegantly graceful plant. Who wouldn't want Angels Fishing Rods or Fairy Wand Flowers in their garden? Both names suggest peace and warm summer days in the garden. I love to see these dangling over a pond or some kind of water feature, imagining garden creatures angling for their supper. But they look just as lovely over a small wall or bank.

This one is an exceptionally luxurious colour of deep purple. They look especially charming with the fresh green growth of the Briza media 'Limouzi', even when they begin to show their seeds off. Such lovely movement in a soft breeze.

Anyway, enough of the romance! Dieramas grow to 120 cm tall and wide and are evergreen in warmer areas. They prefer full sun, don't need much care at all, and will thrive without much care, but do best in moist but free draining soils. Divide after flowering when the clump looks congested.

Perennial.
