Digitalis purpurea | Elsey Kelsey

Digitalis purpurea | Elsey Kelsey

Also known as Pam's Choice this is lovely, elegant Foxglove has an upright habit with long spikes of white flowers with a densely speckled deep maroon throat and makes a stately impression in the garden. Flowering begins in spring and goes through the summer months.  Being biennial, it will establish its leaves in the first year and flower in the second.  If you trim back the flower stems after flowering the plant will reward you with another flower stem before setting seed to start future generations.  The flowers are adored by bees and a treat to watch as they clamber inside to get the pollen from the stamens - they make a great bee hotel!

The plants are very hardy but prefer conditions that are not too wet but once established will tolerate a certain amount of drought.  For those Flower Farmers amongst us, this is a perfect choice to grow, they also help other flowers in an arrangement last longer.  You can also make a liquid from the stems to put into your flower arrangements to help them last longer. Foxgloves are also beneficial garden plant as they stimulate growth and it is said that if they are planted near your tomatoes, potatoes, and apples that the storage qualities of them will be improved.

Please note: All parts of Foxgloves are poisonous if ingested. Wear gloves when harvesting and use caution around children and pets.

Partial shade is best, but they do not mind morning sun.

We recommend wearing gloves when handling these plants as they are toxic.

Height up to 1.5m x 60cm Wide
