Gelasine elongata
Also known as Gelasine azurea and Dimpled Iris, this striking, late spring early summer flowering white-eyed, bright-blue or violet flowered bulb slowly open in the morning like crocuses before further expanding into flared stars. Although each flower only lasts for one day the procession of flowers when plants on mass looks stunning. The flowers sit on stems that are about 50cm in length above clumps of long narrow pleated grey green leaves.
This lovely little plant is a cormus genus in the Iridaceae family and is native to South America
Plants love a hot but reasonably moist soil in a sheltered spot and some respite from hot afternoon sun is appreciated. Adding a layer of mulch will help to retain moisture levels.
Protection from frost is required as they are not overly hardy so can be a great choice for a pot in colder climates. Plants will self sow and can be split once they have bulked up.
A great choice for a pot, rock garden or front of border
Please note these are cut back if you are purchasing them in February | March
Height 30-40cm x clumping
Half Hardy
Plant size PB 2 | Equivalent 1.2 litres
