Nigella damascena | Albion Green Pod

Nigella damascena | Albion Green Pod

This delightful annual also known as Love In A Mist features small delicate star shaped white flowers that are surrounded by ferny foliage on strong tall stems, and are a favourite for the cutting garden.

As the flowers fade, they are replaced with large  bright green seed pods which are excellent fresh or dried. The pods also look stunning spray painted in floral work and gold and silver will add a touch of glamour to your floral work.

Flowers attract and feed bees as well as other beneficial insects to your garden.

This plant looks particularly dreamy planted in groups for best effect and will self sow.  Plants will self sow, so if you do not want lots of little volunteers,  these are easily removed. A perfect plant choice for the cottage garden or somewhere where the soil is on the dry side and not too rich. Plant in a warm sunny spot.  When planting your plant, do not disturb the roots as they do not like it, so simply dig your hole and cut your plant out of the bag and pop it in and firm it down.

If harvesting for the vase, harvest your flowers when they are full open.  Generally you can expect about a week from these flowers.  If drying the pods, simply hang upside down in a warm, dry place out of bright light for two to three weeks.

We also have Albion Black Pod and the stunning African Bride
