A beautiful giant for a large border in moist soil, or by the side of the pond. Very similar to Herbstsonne, and also known as Rudbeckia laciniata. Strong leafy branching stems which give a long display in early autumn, of large lemon-yellow, up to 10 cm wide daisies. The broad petals curve downwards from the cone shaped centre, which look good even when the petals have fallen. Plant into full sun or dappled shade, and they'll grow up to 2 metres tall and 1 metre wide in a season. Clump forming, so not at all invasive, just a great looking plant at the end of summer just when the garden seems to be getting ready for winter. It surprises me every year! A wonderful cut flower too, a jugful by itself brightens any room. (We have plenty of jugs to choose from in our giftshop. Grows well with tall Asters and Salvias, as well as Stipa and Brizas for a prairie look.
